"The Shot Heard Round the World"

(Amy) Today commemorates the 233rd anniversary of the beginning of the Revolutionary War. Dave and I met up with my brother, Matt, in Concord, Massachusetts today to see some of the reenactments and tour the sites of the area. Our first stop was at the Minuteman National Park where we all felt a reverence for the events that transpired there so many years ago.










Dave and I asked this man if we could take a picture with him not knowing that his part in the reenactment was as a Loyalist to those lousy Red Coats!










After Minuteman National Park we stopped at "Orchard House" where Louisa May Alcott wrote one of my very favorite books, "Little Women."












Matt then took us to the air force base where he is working on Bose Einstein Condensation (BEC). I loved seeing Matt's name plaque on his office door...he's officially Dr. Squires now! We're all so proud of him!











The main event of the day was watching a reenactment on Battle Road of the happenings of that morning between Concord and Lexington. First, the Red Coats marched in to seize the Colonist's ammunition strongholds.








Then Colonists from neighboring militias rallied and surrounded the Red Coats and fighting ensued! The shocked Red Coats were forced to retreat all the way to Boston. We were appalled to see our stinkin' Loyalist fleeing with the cowards!




There were a lot of cute kids dressed up for the occasion.

Puzzled

(Amy) We bought this 1,000 piece puzzle at FAO Schwartz during our trip to New York two Saturdays ago. It has been a really enjoyable diversion from school and work these past few days. Dave and I completed the puzzle tonight, we'll definitely be in the market for a new puzzle to work on in the future!

Dave is 25!

(Amy) Dave's 25th birthday was LAST Tuesday, April 1st. That's right, he's an April Fool! Unfortunately for us, it was a very busy day with Dave teaching until 3:00 then going to class from 3:30 to 4:20 PM. I had a nursing clinical from 4:00 to 10:00 PM. So, we were not able to spend much time together on Dave's actual birthday. However, I did stay up late the night before Dave's birthday to decorate our front room with balloons and streamers! Dave also had plenty of presents and cards to open on his birthday, so don't feel too sorry for him!


Friday night we had some birthday cake and yesterday we finally had Dave's birthday dinner! Dave ate on the "You Are Special" plate and we enjoyed a delicious meal of broccoli chicken sandwich ring (which was Dave's special request) and spinach salad.
I hope Dave had a wonderful birthday despite the fact that the celebration was spread out over a week! Dave is the greatest husband and friend and I'm so lucky to have him!
