Our first week in Philadelphia was spent getting settled in our new place and exploring our neighborhood and the city. Poor Josh had his first ear infection this week; he had never been sick before and we ended up taking him to the ER at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia at 4 AM after a horrible night of inconsolable crying and screaming. It was pretty unnerving since he is such an easy-going little guy and had never been sick up to that point. He was put on Amoxicillin and was good as new within a day or two. Poor little guy.
We flew to Phoenix on August 9th. It was nice to leave our half-unpacked place behind and spend some quality time with family. Dave, Josh, and I drove to Tuscon to spend an afternoon with Carrie, Charles, and my mom (who was in town visiting Carrie). We had dinner at Sweet Tomatoes (sooo yummy) and stopped at Fort Lowell which was an active U.S. Army post from 1873 to 1891.
Josh LOVED being with his Uncle Charles and Aunt Carrie...it was wonderful relaxing and visiting at their home.
Josh went swimming in a pool for his first time at Mom and Dad Choules' home. He had a great time!
After a couple days enjoying Arizona, we were off again to Hawaii for a fabulous family vacation with Mom, Dad, Michael, and Kim (Michael's fiancee). We had a ton of luggage, it made for a crazy time getting around at the airport! Josh did amazing on the long flight to Hawaii.
Our first morning in Kauai Josh, who was still on Arizona time, woke up before 5 AM. David, Josh, and I took a walk to the beach to watch the sun rise together.
What a great way to kick off our vacation; we were so excited to be in HAWAII together!
This is the beach we hiked to. It was pretty secluded, we were the only people there (probably more due to the fact that it was not even 6 AM yet). :) The rest of our first day in Kauai was spent exploring around the timeshare, planning our itinerary for the vacation, and swimming in the pool at the timeshare.
The next morning Josh was up before the crack of dawn again. The three of us went on another walk to another beach.

After our hike we decided to check out the swanky St. Regis Resort that was near to Mom and Dad Choules' timeshare that we were staying at. The resort was gorgeous and its views of Hanalei Bay were spectacular!

Later in the day we drove to Waimea Canyon, it is so beautiful!

We had a picnic lunch at Kokee State Park up the canyon. We had spent quite a bit of time in the car and Josh was glad to spend some time playing in the grass for a bit!

We drove a bit further from Kokee to the Kalalau Lookout. The view is indescribably beautiful! You really can't capture how wonderful it was there in a picture.

On the drive home from Waimea Canyon, we briefly stopped at Spouting Horn-a neat blowhole on the South Shore.

Ahhh! Hawaii! LUCKY!!! We had big plans for a Hawaiian vacation for our ten year anniversary. But then we didn't really find the time and we decided to roll our Hawaii vacation funds into our house downpayment funds instead. Boo. BUT someday... If only I could get a job at Hawaii Opera.
So fun that you could go to this paradise with some family. and your early morning jaunts to the beach sound perfect.
